Head to Head: The Results
Conversational Programming, Fall 2026, at Illinois. Every student went looking for personal websites they thought were good, wrote a sentence or two on each, and then the class compared them two at a time.
- sites in the draw
- 115
- comparisons
- 760
- voters
- 20
Sites were collected from September 25, voted on from September 30, and the results were shown in class on October 7, 2026. Each comparison put two live sites side by side and asked two questions:
- Effective. What makes it effective? What is it for, and how can you tell it works?
- Distinctive. What makes it distinctive? What would you recognize it by with the name covered?
Every site here was found by a student and none was made by one, so nobody's own work was being judged. Pairs were drawn Swiss-style, putting sites with similar records against each other; a Bradley–Terry model was fitted to each question separately, and the overall place is the mean of the two scores.
What each site's finder wrote about it is shown beside it. A finder's name appears only where they chose to put it there. How the activity ran is on the activity page, and there is more for other instructors on the educators page.
